Prepster

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

I chose a basic (preppy, in fact) color palette today in an updated silhouette. Usually, I'd tuck my shirt in so that you can see my leg line, but this shirt curves upward on the sides (similar to a baseball tee) and therefore, you can clearly see the sides of my legs and the length of my body. In other words, it doesn't cut me off and make my legs look stumpy. This shirt was a no-brainer: I bought it last night at Target and, contrary to my shopping partner's opinion, horizontal stripes are NOT the enemy! In fact, when the fit is right, they can very well be our friend! The neckline also gives me length and the 3/4 length (tight) sleeves show that my arms and my body are smaller than the blousiness of the shirt fully shows. A pop of red lipstick and a crooked topknot are all I need to make it look like I just got out of bed like this. (I didn't.) Hope you have a great holiday!

Good Things Ahead

Today marked a big day for me. I announced the launch of my business: Sweet Kelly Anne Styling! I'm really happy with how things are coming together so far. It just feels right.

You know what else feels right? An oversized sweater for Oversized Week. The key is to roll up the sleeves and show a little wrist to keep things in proportion. A flash of the ankle isn't such a bad idea either.

Kickin' It

Remember how much I like weekends that are the perfect balance between getting things done and relaxing? Last weekend was one of those. I just feel so rejuvenated! Seriously glorious.

New kicks all around

In honor of Thanksgiving, this week is Oversized Week. Perhaps it should be scheduled for next week instead (considering I more often reach for oversized clothes AFTER Thanksgiving than BEFORE), but alas. It remains this week. And we shall have a good time with it!

I went with an oversized sweater today, but you can't really tell because I tucked it into a skirt. (Well, you can kind of tell because the armpits of the shirt look like wings. I don't think they're supposed to do that. I found it at a garage sale for $3 and it's an XL - but I liked it!) You see, here's the thing: I have a hundred oversized items, but I really wanted to wear this new skirt because I put it on last week when I got it and it barely fit around my waist. So I thought, well, it's now or never. If I'm going to eat a shit ton at Thanksgiving (duh, a given), then I won't be fitting into this skirt next week anyways.

It's my party skirt!

Last Minute

This was a last-minute-oh-shit-I-have-to-leave-and-I-was-too-lazy-to-pick-something-out-last-night outfit. I never love these outfits because I'm not good under pressure. I don't have my wits about me in the morning and planning ahead seems to suite me best. In any case, I went with a fancier scarf for the end of Scarves Week to go out with a bang. And I like to think that my hair makes up for my outfit. That shit took me a while to finish!

Purples

Oh Scarves Week, I love you. Scarves are just so damn versatile. In this particular instance, my scarf is covering this very low, cleavage-bearing dress. And so, I can effectively wear this outfit to work thanks to the scarf.

Plaid is Rad

Today was one of those days when I felt like I had about 14 days all wrapped into one. To think about what I did this morning as compared to what I did at 7pm...it seems like a whole different month. I am so exceedingly happy to be in bed at this moment. It's as if my whole day has specifically brought me to this exact space in this exact moment. (And this is where I will remain for the next 8 hours.)

In continuation of Scarves Week, I wore one of some of my favorite items: a gorgeous vintage Pendleton blazer (thrifted, of course) with a new winter scarf from Target.

Archer Cheeks

This past weekend was so fun and festive! We hosted a sweatpants dinner party on Friday night:

Doesn't this look like the cover of a Real Simple magazine?

(I'm telling you: Sweatpants and dinner parties should ALWAYS go together. It's so much fun to make formal dinner parties casual and low pressure! Everyone comes feeling relaxed and jazzed and it's a night focused on good food and great company. Can't go wrong!) On Saturday morning, the weather was so beautiful that Jason and I went for an early stroll:

Can you see the frost? Brrrrrrrr
I had a closet consult on Saturday afternoon with a coworker and we had such a great time! She ended up fully revamping much of her wardrobe and only spending about $160 at Goodwill on 15 shirts, 2 blazers, 2 scarves, and a pair of pants. You can find some seriously great things there.

On Saturday night, Jason and I went to an engagement party for a close friend of mine. They're getting married in Savannah next September, so it was a southern theme of sorts:

Jason is the cutest *gush*

Sunday was the Seahawks game (tear) and the Packers game (fist pump!) and another closet consult with another coworker. I be hitting up these wardrobes HARD!

I almost forgot last Friday's wardrobe! I went with a dress and flannel combo. I was going to tie the flannel over the dress (so it looked like I was wearing a top and a skirt), but I went with the layering look instead. I think it turned out quite cute! I love the color of the dress as well as the draping, but the sleeves are a titch too big. They bell out a bit and I don't think it's the most flattering fit for my shape. But that's what you get for going thrift! :)
