The Tuck

Today is a perfect illustration of what tucking in will do for your figure. See these first few images? The shirt is not tucked in which makes my torso look long and my legs look short. But the last few pictures show my shirt tucked and it completely changes my proportions. Suddenly, my legs appear much longer and my torso looks shorter -- literally just by tucking in the front part of the shirt. (I let the back hang out.) And the best part is that you don't need a flat stomach to do the tuck! You just need a blouse that flows around your body; it should NOT cling to your body. Clinging (in the form of jersey cottons or knits and cheap polyester fabrics, for example) is the enemy. We want clothes to fit and flow and form to our body in the most flattering way possible, so it takes choosing a fabric that will not show dents and curves that we don't want to show. Keep this in mind when picking out clothes. Fabric goes a long way. (And so does the tuck!)

Long torso, short legs again...kinda schlumpy

Tucked! Legs suddenly appear like they start higher & look longer

Same. The tuck changes everything

I'm telling you -- you can create your own proportional figure

I'm off to Lake Chelan this weekend, so I'll likely do a quick post tomorrow night to finish up Sandals Week and then I'm out of town till Wednesday. See you soon! :)

Double Dip

It's so flipping hot in my apartment. I wish I was eating ice cream right now instead of blogging.

It's Sandals Week and it's easy to stay true to my theme allllll week. I didn't post last night, so I'm double dippin' tonight. (I just wish that double dip was an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate. Yum.)

A cheap ring from Goodwill that turned my finger green

I went with a preppier look today. Full disclosure: I went to H&M last night to find shorts and I found way more, of course. I didn't even know I needed a classic blue button down (sleeveless, obvi), but it has filled a huge hole in my closet. I added a coral lipstick 'cause this outfit was feeling a bit too tennis club for my liking.

Red Dressness

You guys, I think I'm losing my mind. I just wore this dress two weeks ago! I NEVER do that! I crave variety within my wardrobe so much that I create theme weeks around random events and items in my closet in an effort to limit the amount of times I wear something. You may think: No big deal! But I am shocked at myself. Shocked!

Well, it's evident that I love this dress. I do. It's so versatile. And lovely. And easy. This week is Sandals Week, but I've been informed that many people at my work can't do open-toed shoes. (I work at a hospital.) So, for me and some others, it's sandals week, but it may be something entirely different for you. Make something up! A theme that gives you joy and excitement! I'm all for joy and excitement when it comes to dressing.

A Second Use for PJs

Confession: I wore my pajamas to work on Friday. Literally, the pants I wore are pajamas that I picked up from Target last season. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend this strategy to everyone, it was delightfully comfortable and I was so happy! For this look, I tucked my tank into the pants to create the illusion that my legs start at the smallest part of my waist. It really works to minimize my thighs and butt. The cropped jacket also helps to achieve this illusion of long legs and the necklace is intended to draw your eye to the middle of my body which creates even more length.

Friday night, we had our first milkshake in 4 weeks and it was DELICIOUS. We're still not supposed to have introduced sugar, but we were in the mood to cheat and so we did! As you can see, we REALLY enjoyed ourselves...

OMG, pure seriousness and pure deliciousness

Then we went to Whale Wins in Fremont for a lovely birthday dinner party. It was so fun! They had meringues the size of my head...

On Saturday afternoon, I took the ferry to Bainbridge Island and celebrated a dear friend at her bridal shower. It was one of the best I've ever been to!
