The Cost of Comfort

Do you always like your outfits? I usually like mine, but sometimes, I default to comfortable. Don't we all? I don't necessarily mean that all the clothes I really like (and look good on me) aren't comfortable. They are! (Mostly.) But sometimes, comfort outweighs the desire to look really put together. Like wearing yoga pants under a long top versus wearing a pencil skirt with a non-breathable polyester blouse. Comfy cozy versus hot and sticky and a little squished. And then, sometimes, when I choose to be comfortable over glamorous or sweet or preppy or professional, I end up feeling low energy and kinda lazy. And then I don't really like my outfit anymore due to my mood. Today is one of those days.

So, while I'm within the parameters of Metallics Week (which is my main aim), I have taken the easy way out. I found this shiny taupe shirt dress in my closet last night and I've paired it with my long yoga pants. The epitome of comfortable. But also the epitome of blah?

I'm going to Hawaii this weekend, so you won't see me tomorrow or Monday or Tuesday. So much for blah! I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

You'll never guess what happened today: I bench pressed 100 pounds! It's a milestone! Back in October 2012, I hadn't bench pressed since high school, so I started with the bar (45 pounds) and in 12 weeks, I was up to 80 pounds. Fast forward to March 2014, I started benching again at around 75 pounds (muscle memory is the shit) and my first attempt at 100 was tonight. I gained 25 pounds of weight in only 5 months! Success! This feels really big for me, so I had a strawberry pop tart to celebrate.

On the clothing front, we're in the middle of Metallics Week, so here's what I pulled out today:

Metallics include shoes and necklace

Shirt: Thrifted
Pants: Target
Shoes: JcPenneys
Necklace: Boutique

So profesh

Close up! (Finally able to wear lipstick as the cold sore is healing)

Warm Nights

It was a gorgeous day today and it's been a beautiful warm night. And boy, is it HOT. Sweaty hot. I wish it were sweaty, sexy hot, but it's really just HOT, like don't-touch-me-hot and don't-sit-on-the-leather-couch-hot.

Anyways, Metallics Week is going swimmingly, in case you wanted to know. I've started to send out a mass email to most everyone at my workplace (about 40 people, we have about 65 in all) to inform folks of the wardrobe theme weeks. I have been pleased with the response. :)

Here's my pick for today:

A metallic-y skirt! Perhaps a bit short for work

Shirt: Target
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Chinese Laundry
@ TJ Maxx

Suuuuuuper casual

Showing off the earrings - my other metallic

And randomly:

I caved: My first pair of Birkenstocks! I'm in love

I Love Love

Jason and I took our 3 year anniversary photos last night and it was so much fun! (Side note: The dreaded cold sore was easily covered with makeup. Phew!) We don't have any sneak peaks yet, but here are some random pictures and selfies that I took:

The ivy at Grand Central Arcade in Occidental Square - my dream place for pictures

The Seattle Great Wheel at sunset

Footloose and fancy free

Don't even know what to say here

Lovers gotta love

Okay, I promised myself I wouldn't post a million pictures of my outfit (I hate when other bloggers do that!), but I really like this outfit and I can't pick 2 or 3 photos, so Imma have at it and give you 5 big ones! That's right, kickin' off Metallics Week with 5 pics and a selfie (don't mention the ones above):

The side swept hair gets me e'er time

Shirt: Target!
Pants: Lululemon
Shoes: Nordstrom Rack
Necklace: French flea market

This short sleeve summer sweater is the BEST!

It's the softest...

It drapes perfectly to cover my bum (which allows me to wear yoga pants)...

It even has a tail! Brilliant! Cut so, so well. Target does it again.

Still happy about Target :)

Sunset & Roses

Jason and I had a great Friday night:

We ate ice cream (salted caramel)

Watched the sunset over the mountains

Took selfies with the Space Needle

Stopped to smell the roses

And pondered life a bit, too

I had a glorious Friday and a fabulous weekend. Finished up Color Week with this stunning number:

This combo is unexpected, but good! The tones are perfect together

Shirt: Thrifted
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Cole Haan

I like how the nude heels do not compete with the outfit

It's so simple, yet has such a big impact

The gathered sleeves can't be seen here, but are a great feminine detail

Bringin' it in so you can see the haps

I'm Blue

A relaxing night for me usually consists of cleaning up the house, preparing for the next day, making a healthy meal, watching 45 minutes of mind-numbing television, and (in the summertime) crawling into bed before it's fully dark just to cozy up and read. Tonight was one of those nights. On that note, I'm going to bed! Night! :)

Remember the 4 pairs of sandals I bought? Here's pair #2

Shirt: Old Navy
Pants: PacSun
Sandals: Callisto
Necklace: Nordstrom

Birkenstock look-alikes! Jason hates 'em, but they're leopard!

I look oddly flat-chested in this oversized shirt

Blue eyeliner to change it up

Little Red Dress

Tonight, I went over to a coworker's home and played around with some makeup and hair looks for her upcoming nuptials. Then, I showed her a few ways to style her curly, bouncy hair (which is very similar to mine). The top knot was my fave on her:

Double selfie! Best things in life are free

Before I changed into my donut sweater and new sweatpants for the makeup & hair party (duh), I was wearing something verrrrrry colorful and bright for Color Week. Sometimes, all you need is a little red dress and everything will be alright.

I wore the sweater to cover up the cleave at work

Sweater: Thrifted
Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Seychelles
@ Nordstrom Rack

The sweater is off!

Sometimes, accessories make me itchy

This morning, as I was groggily waking up, I stumbled into the bathroom to wash my face and start the medium-long process of putting on makeup. With the first swipe of Burt's Bees (my morning preference) onto my lips, I realized I had a few sensitive bumps brewing under my skin near the corner of my mouth. Ouch! Cold sores! Damnit!

Oh cold sores. Why must you be SOOOOOO painful? You throb all day, you make it difficult to eat, difficult to talk. Whyyyyyyyyy?

Whine over. (But, we're taking anniversary photos on Sunday and my cold sores better not be there or I SWEAR I'll ;akdjf;adskhf;askdhg;akgh;ah!)

Today continues our lovely Week of Color. I have a sort of 70s vibe going on today. (Side note: I love the 70s look. The mustards and burnt oranges and creams. The wide leg pants and cropped tops and platforms. The fur and the boots and the boots with the fur. So 70s! Definitely could have been born in that era.) And so I present:

Shirt: Thrifted
Pants: PacSun
Shoes: Taos

Time for Color

Today, the Week of Color starts. In honor of my boss (who wears very little color en general), we're denouncing black, white, brown, and beige!

These shoes are the most comfy of all time. So worth the $$$.

Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Taos
